Brinjal - Leaves

Not sure why but I noticed quite a number of holes on the leaves of my brinjal plants... Attack of some unknown worms???? The ones that I have grown in the plot are not as well as those that I have grown at home...... Sheltered life is still much better for plants? Hmmmmm.....

Sunflower

The pod is more and more evident now!!! Hooray, finally! They are going to give me a big SMILE soon!

Tomato in box - more flowers

Did more shakes this morning! Hopefully they will fruit!!

Winged bean trellis

Hastily assembled the trellis for my winged bean yesterday morning..... Will need to add more wires to make it more dense when I have the time.... Also need to add a canopy on top too so that they can climb on top too....

Okra

My little okras managed to pick themselves up and stand tall once again! Phew!

Honeydew

My 2 honeydews are still hanging on the vine!! I smelled the blossom end part of the fruit but there isn't any smell yet!! Think it is not ripe??? OMG, so hard to know when I can pick them..... Colour wise, they are definitely VERY yellow now!

Red okra

Oh dear, due to the heavy lashing rain last evening, some of the my red okra seedlings were badly toppled! I had to use tiny bamboo sticks to prop up today.... so heart pained to see them in such a state

Tomato in box - flowering!

I gave a few shakes on the stem - hoping that it will pollinate by doing so! LOL

Pak Choi

I was at Giant yesterday and I bought more seeds!!! OMG .. I have a box full of seeds!! I sowed some seeds of Pak Choi yesterday in the egg container. From instructions, these Pak Choi will only take 3 weeks to harvest! Wow, that's super fast.....

Passion fruit flower

Dazzling isn't it???? My neighbour hand pollinated all her flowers! Smart move!!

Bittergourd seedling

Last week, I took a bittergourd seedling that dropped off the bittergourd fruit of my neighbour's plant and planted directly into the plot. It grew and so I transplanted them into the brinjal plot since the trellis is already setup. Hope to see them grow very fast and bear some flowers & subsequently fruits!

Radish seedlings

Out of 4 radish seedings that I planted last week, only 2 sprouted. So I planted some more last Friday. Waiting for a few more to sprout before I transplant them to my box... I haven't got time to setup the box anyway...

Edamame sprouted!

My edamame seeds sprouted yesterday! It only took 4 days to sprout! Wow, high quality seeds indeed (as claimed on the wrapper).... I will wait for them to grow a little bigger and then I will transplant them.... probably on Saturday morning as I will probably be busy for the next few days ..... I hope by then, all would have sprouted! Their bed is ready for them anytime!

Red Okra without roots

The red okra that I transplanted without any roots last week seems to be surviving! The new leave seems to be growing! ありがたい! I almost wanted to throw it away!! Lucky me!

Cauliflower 30 days

I have been growing my cauliflower for about 30 days now... it is still at this size.......

Making compost

Started making compost with my neighbour! She got these plastic containers from the market for a dollar each... Put in a plastic bag and started throwing in discarded vegetables & fruit/fruit peels & topped up with bokashi (a type of microorganism).... We finished filling up 1 container yesterday as I got 2kg of pineapple peels!! It was funny.. I actually dreamt last night that I made a mess of the compost and my neighbour wasn't too happy about it!! LOL .. I really hope I didn't!!! Looking forward to some home made fertiliser for my plants in 3 months' time!

Kang kong

My kang kong plot getting more busy now! This morning, sowed in another pack of seeds to make them more dense... Endless supplies of kang kong very soon!!

Xiao Bai Chye Day 16

I transplanted them into the styrofoam box a few days ago and yesterday, finally brought them down into the plot. Left them standing on a stool beside my neighbour's sweet potato.... Half way through, counting down to harvest! LOL Going to start a chye sim box soon too...

Edamame plot

Finally completed the plot where I want to grow my edamame today!! The sacrifices that I have made : mosquito stings, over strained wrist, blistered palm & slipper-strap-shaped-sun tanned on my foot!!! OMG Need to put some boundary using styrofoam later today... Next week, I will be busy with office work so I gotta finish as much as I can within these 2 days!!!

Sunflower pod

I think the sunflower is going to bloom soon! I am surprised because I always thought sunflowers are supposed to grow very tall - even above my height. But the 3 that I have in my plot, there are definitely not even half my height! Maybe they are the miniature versions!! LOL

Tomato in box

I noticed the bottom leaves are turning yellow! I hope it is not the start!! ;-( ... I decided to top up some soil - maybe it is lacking in fertiliser..... I hope they will be ok.... My neighbour's sole tomato died! Guess even with the transplant to the box, it did not make it... Guess tomato plants do not like to be moved once they are rooted.... My last one planted in the plot died too... I had it removed and planted a chilli padi instead.... So now, I have more than 10 chilli padi seedlings planted in my plots.... LOL

Brinjal

Brinjal, I read, likes a lot of calcium in their soil ... So I saved some egg shells from last night's dinner and sprinkle on one of them.... Hoping that it will make a difference in the growth! Experiments! Everyday!

Enzyme seems to work!

There is one chilli padi plant that I have transplanted just next to my neighbour's cucumbers and also beside a big chopped-off trunk. Last week, the leaves were turning a bit yellowish and it has little brown dots on them.... I have been spraying enzyme liquid on it for the past 4 days and I think it is helping as the new top leaves are once again turning back to green!! Yes, I have managed to save 1 chilli padi from extinction! From the picture, you can see the clear distinction between the bottom and top leaves - what's a difference!!

Passion fruit saplings

My neighbour gave me 3 stalks of passion fruit from her plant - it seems that they can grow via stem cutting. I left them in a bottle of water for 1 week - they are really growing... no roots in sight yet - guess they are growing because there is water supply to the stem.... It is starting to sprout as you can see from the picture below... Also, near the edge of the leaves, there seems to be some liquid secretions... wondering what's that... it is a bit sticky.... I hope the roots will appear soon so that I can transplant them... But anyway, their plot is not ready yet!! Still changkoling away this morning .... I am dead tired from all the changkoling this morning......... hopefully no aches tomorrow!!

Winged bean

Transplanted my home germinated winged bean into another plot today..... I am not done with the trellis for this plot yet... Will find some time to do up - I guess I will still have time as they are not in the climbing stage yet.... As for the other winged bean with the pumpkin, it is growing slowly & steadily too.... I suspect the other one that I sowed directly into the soil is also sprouting..... I will get some pictures tomorrow!!

Watermelon seedlings in plot

Transplanted my 2 watermelon seedlings into the plot yesterday... They seem to be adapting - at least still alive & standing when I saw them this morning.... Topped up some store bought soil this morning - hope to expedite their growth!

Honeydew

I am still clueless when to harvest my honeydew.... my neighbour said she can smell the honeydew when she is near the plant.. But I can't smell at all...LOL.... Another neighbour sent me a link in youtube on how to check if the melon is ripe - basically to wet your thumb and then stroke the surface of the skin; if there is a screeching sound, then it is ripe...I tried yesterday and it seems that there IS a screeching sound.. But still, very unsure if it is ready for harvest....

Tomato in box - flower buds

Finally! Cherry tomato flower buds!! The first time it ever grew to this stage of flowering!! Yes!!!

Edamame seeds

My friend bought me the edamame seeds from Japan!! Yeah! Don't they look more like cooked kacang? When I shake the pack, it sure sounds like kacang!! Hahaha.... Will sprout them tomorrow! Expiry is till Dec 2013 so I gotta plant all of them real soon... Guess I will give up on the cucumber seeds! They are not sprouting so I will throw them away la.... Sugar peas - it has been over 1 week and they are also not sprouting yet....

Watermelon trellis

Somebody in my neighbourhood discarded 2 sets of bamboo hangers! I chanced upon them the other day! Wow, really struck lottery!! These are ready made trellis for me!!! LOL .. I became a garang guni woman... looking at rubbish centres to see if I can recycle anything for my farming.... As they are quite sturdy, I used them for my watermelon plot! So tomorrow I can transplant my watermelon seedlings to the new plot.... Looking forward to them climbing all over...

Xiao Bai Cai in new home

Nicely transplanted into their new home! Going to let them stand on a chair in the new plot! I used up all my compost filling up this box ... Gotta buy more!!!

Red Okra

While trying to transplant one of my red okra a few days ago, I accidentally detached the body from the roots!! Oh mind, so sayang... I decided to plant it still into the bed... Hoping that it will be rescued somehow.... after 2 days, it is still alive I think .. though it has toppled somehow.... Praying that it will survive this ordeal.....

Tomatoes in box

I think I saw some semblings (got such a word right?) of the tomato flower buds this morning... Can't really see much from the picture though... But I guess it will be more evident by next week! Looking forward for sure!!! I hope they will give me some cherry tomatoes!!!

Sunflower

My sunflower is towering over my neighbour's papaya now.... I think the flower buds of the sunflower is appearing .... maybe another couple of weeks, it will bloom!! Looking forward to seeing some 'sunshine' in the garden!

Kang Kong

My kang kong appearing more and more like those edible kang kongs in the market! Need to sow more seeds to make them more dense...

Capsicum seedlings

Capsicum seedlings doing well in the new plot.... Their true leaves are appearing the day after I transplanted so I think they like their new home! I am glad.... My neighbour's capsicum seems to be infected with some worms or like... Not sure exactly what - the growth is stunted and the leaves are shrivelling up... the fruits is not as big as those seen in the market & black dots appear on them before they ripen.... Need to read up more on this for prevention.... I hope the enzyme help though - have been spraying everywhere once a week!

Cauliflower Seedlings

Full view of all my planted cauliflower seedings... They are really taking their own sweet time to grow! Or is it they are lacking something? Bad weather? Too much rain??? Hmm... the pace that they are growing, I think I can only harvest them in 6 months!!! :-)
